STATUTORY BASIS: the 2019 Prime Minister's Office Notification fixes 19 annual government holidays — New Year's Day (1 Jan), Makha Bucha (15th waxing day of the 3rd lunar month), Chakri Day (6 Apr), Songkran (13-15 Apr, 3 days), Coronation Day (4 May), Royal Ploughing Ceremony Day (date fixed each year by the Bureau of the Royal Household), Visakha Bucha (15th waxing, 6th lunar month), Queen Suthida's Birthday (3 Jun), Asahna Bucha (15th waxing, 8th lunar month), Khao Phansa (1st waning, 8th lunar month), the King's Birthday (28 Jul), the Queen Mother's Birthday (12 Aug), 13 Oct, Chulalongkorn Day (23 Oct), 5 Dec, Constitution Day (10 Dec) and New Year's Eve (31 Dec). SUBSTITUTION APPLIED for 2026: only two statutory dates fall at the weekend — Visakha Bucha, Sunday 31 May 2026, substituted by Monday 1 June 2026; and 5 December 2026, a Saturday, substituted by Monday 7 December 2026. Both the original date and the substitute are listed because 5 December remains a day of national observance and Visakha Bucha remains the religious day; payroll systems should treat the substitute weekday as the non-working day. No other 2026 holiday falls on a weekend. LUNAR DATES: 2569 B.E. is an adhikamasa (leap-month) year in the Thai lunar calendar, which is why Visakha Bucha falls on 31 May 2026 rather than in mid-May; the Buddhist dates above are fixed and not moon-sighting-provisional. Royal Ploughing Ceremony Day 2026 = Wednesday 13 May 2026 as announced by the Bureau of the Royal Household — it is a government holiday only: private-sector employees and banks work that day. NATIONAL LABOUR DAY (1 May) is deliberately INCLUDED although it is NOT in the Prime Minister's Office annual list: civil servants work on 1 May, but it is a compulsory traditional holiday for private-sector employees under the Labour Protection Act B.E. 2541 and a bank holiday, and is the day the private sector takes in lieu of the Royal Ploughing Ceremony. DELIBERATE EXCLUSIONS: Friday 16 October 2026, declared by the Bank of Thailand as a special closure day for financial institutions in the Bangkok metropolitan area only — a localised banking closure, not a national public holiday. Regional and religious observances that are not national holidays (e.g. Chinese New Year, the southern provinces' Islamic observances, Loy Krathong) are excluded. Additional ad-hoc 'special' holidays may still be declared by Cabinet during 2026: on 2 December 2025 the Cabinet withdrew a proposal for two further 2026 special days after business-impact objections, so none beyond 2 January are in force as at 20 July 2026.
