What this value means
20% is the NOMINAL statutory rate applied to net profit for accounting periods beginning on or after 1 January 2016. It replaced a sequence of temporary Royal Decree reductions from the old 30% statutory rate (30% -> 23% for 2012 -> 20% for 2013-2015 by decree, then made permanent by Amendment Act No. 42). There is no separate national/local split — 20% is the whole federal-equivalent burden. Documented deviations, NOT blended into the value: SMEs with paid-up capital not exceeding THB 5m and revenue not exceeding THB 30m pay 0% on the first THB 300,000 of net profit, 15% from 300,001 to 3,000,000 and 20% above; International Banking Facilities 10% on net profit; foreign companies in international transport 3% of gross receipts; non-resident companies on dividends remitted 10% of gross; associations and foundations 2% or 10% of gross receipts. Board of Investment (BOI) promoted projects and the various Eastern Economic Corridor / IBC regimes can grant CIT exemptions of up to 13 years or reduced rates as low as 3-8% — these are grant-based, not general statutory rates, and are excluded. Thailand also applies a 15% domestic top-up tax to in-scope multinational groups under the Emergency Decree on Top-up Tax B.E. 2567 (Pillar Two) for accounting periods beginning on or after 1 January 2025; this is a separate tax and does not change the 20% CIT rate.
