What this value means
June 2026 CPI +4.69% y/y. Same release: -0.39% m/m (the first monthly fall of 2026, driven by the transport group -4.85% m/m as petrol prices fell 10.05% and diesel 10.63% tracking world crude); +3.21% versus December 2025. Q2 2026 average +5.25% y/y; H1 2026 average +4.38% y/y; core inflation (lam phat co ban) H1 average +4.12%. Of the 11 main COICOP-style groups, 7 rose and 4 fell month-on-month. Context for buyers: the sharp June y/y deceleration from May's 5.60% is a fuel base effect, not a break in trend - core inflation at 4.12% remains elevated and the H1 average of 4.38% is running against the National Assembly's 2026 target band. INSTITUTIONAL NOTE: the former Tong cuc Thong ke (General Statistics Office) was reorganised in 2025 into Cuc Thong ke under the Ministry of Finance. The domain gso.gov.vn now redirects to nso.gov.vn; English pages still carry the legacy 'General Statistics Office of Vietnam' title string. Use nso.gov.vn. ACCESS QUIRK: nso.gov.vn repeatedly returned read ECONNRESET and, on the /en/cpi/ path, ECONNREFUSED (160.25.148.3:443) from outside Vietnam on 2026-07-20 - the host appears to rate-limit or partially geo-restrict automated fetches, while remaining indexed and retrievable via search. Monthly overview PDFs are published at a predictable path, e.g. https://www.nso.gov.vn/wp-content/uploads/2026/06/Tong-quan-CPI-thang-5-nam-2026.pdf, and are the most reliable retrieval route when the HTML pages reset. Vietnam publishes CPI as a monthly y/y figure and as period averages; the period average (binh quan) is the figure quoted in policy targets and is NOT the same as the single-month y/y served here - do not conflate them.
