What this value means
Reference month June 2026: headline CPI +1.0% YoY, -0.3% MoM; core CPI (ex food & energy) also +1.0% YoY; food -1.6% YoY vs non-food +1.5%; H1 2026 average +1.0% YoY. VERIFYING THE BRIEF'S 'near-zero/deflation' flag: it was correct for the recent past but June 2026 has RETURNED to mildly positive. China ran at or below zero headline CPI through much of 2024–2025 (persistent PPI deflation and weak demand); readings have since edged back up, with June 2026 the firmest in the recent stretch at +1.0%. So the current served value is +1.0% (positive, low), not negative — the deflation was the 2024–2025 story, now easing. Producer prices (PPI) remained comparatively firmer in June 2026 (near a multi-year high per the same release cycle). NBS is the official producer; next release (July 2026 CPI) expected ~9–10 Aug 2026.
