What this value means

OPR has been 2.75% since the MPC meeting of 9 July 2025, when BNM cut it by 25bp from 3.00% as a pre-emptive move against external headwinds. Six subsequent MPC meetings (4 Sep 2025, 6 Nov 2025, 22 Jan 2026, 5 Mar 2026, 7 May 2026, 9 Jul 2026) all recorded '0' change. BNM publishes six scheduled MPC meetings per year and releases the Monetary Policy Statement at 3:00 p.m. on the meeting day; a 10-calendar-day communication blackout precedes each release. The OPR change takes effect on the decision date itself, so effective_from is the decision date rather than the following business day. BNM operates a corridor of +/-25bp around the OPR for the overnight interbank rate; the Standing Facility ceiling and floor rates are therefore 3.00% and 2.50% and are NOT served here. VERIFIER NOTE: some Malaysian media described the 9 Jul 2026 decision as the 'seventh straight' hold; on BNM's own decision table it is the sixth consecutive no-change meeting after the 9 Jul 2025 cut. The count in this note follows BNM's table, not the press. ACCESS QUIRK: www.bnm.gov.my sits behind bot protection - plain HTTP clients get HTTP 403 or an HTTP 202 with a zero-byte body, and the site requires a real JS-executing browser. A public staging mirror (staging001.bnm.gov.my/monetary-stability/opr-decisions) responds to plain clients and independently confirms every row through 5 Mar 2026, but was stale at that row when checked on 2026-07-20, so it must not be used for the current value; the 7 May 2026 and 9 Jul 2026 holds were cross-checked against contemporaneous reporting of BNM's Monetary Policy Statements. The table above was read from the live site in a headless browser.
