Bahrain minimum wage

Statutory wage floor for workers. STRUCTURAL NULL — Bahrain has NO statutory minimum wage. Neither the Labour Law for the Private Sector (Law No. 36 of 2012) nor any subordinate instrument fixes a wage floor for private-sector, migrant or domestic workers; wages are set by the individual contract of employment.

What this value means

POSITIVELY ESTABLISHED NULL, not a missing figure. The full consolidated Arabic text of Law 36/2012 was read from the LLOC (the Kingdom's official legislation publisher, https://www.lloc.gov.bh/Legislation/HTM/K3612) and searched: the phrase 'الحد الأدنى' ('the minimum') occurs EXACTLY ONCE in the entire 198-article statute, at Article 195, where it refers to the minimum criminal PENALTY a court may not go below — not to wages. The wages chapter opens at Article 39 with a prohibition on pay discrimination and continues into payment mechanics (Article 40: wages payable in Bahraini dinars, monthly for monthly-paid workers, weekly otherwise); no article sets a floor. WHY THE OBVIOUS SUBSTITUTE IS NOT A MINIMUM WAGE: (1) The Wages Protection System (WPS), mandatory for all private-sector employers under LMRA Resolution No. (68) of 2019 in force from 11 July 2019 and upgraded to WPS 2.0 in October 2025, requires wages to be paid through CBB-licensed banks/payment providers and reported to the LMRA. It polices whether the contracted wage is actually paid, in full and on time — it does not set what that wage must be. (2) Bahrain's PUBLIC sector applies administrative minimum starting salaries to BAHRAINI NATIONALS entering government service, differentiated by qualification and widely reported as BHD 300/month (secondary certificate), BHD 380 (diploma) and BHD 450 (university degree). These figures are DO NOT SERVE AS FACT — they were not verifiable from a Civil Service Bureau primary source at confirmation, and more importantly they are the state's own hiring policy for its own citizen employees, NOT a statutory floor. They bind no private employer, and they do not reach the migrant workers who make up the majority of Bahrain's private-sector workforce. Serving BHD 300 as 'Bahrain's minimum wage' would be materially wrong. (3) Bahrain is not comparable to Qatar here: Qatar enacted a genuinely non-discriminatory statutory minimum wage (Law No. 17 of 2020, effective 20 Mar 2021); Bahrain has not. WHAT WOULD CHANGE THIS: an amendment to Law 36/2012 or a Council of Ministers resolution fixing a wage floor. Watch the LLOC legislation index and LMRA announcements. ACCESS NOTE: the LMRA's own PDF of the Labour Law (lmra.gov.bh/files/cms/shared/file/labour law.pdf) returns HTTP 403 to server-side fetchers; the LLOC HTML text is fetchable and is the authoritative consolidated version.
